Aluminium conductor steel reinforced cable (ACSR) is a type of high-capacity, high-strength stranded conductor typically used in overhead power lines. The outer strands are high-purity aluminium, chosen for its excellent conductivity, low weight and low cost.
ACSR conductors are recognized for their record of economy, dependability and favourable strength / weight ratio. ACSR conductors combine the light weight and good conductivity of aluminium with the high tensile strength and ruggedness of steel. In line design, this can provide higher tensions, less sag, and longer span lengths than obtainable with most other types of overhead conductors.
